A proper flat repair starts with the tire off the rim. That lets us inspect the inside and outside of the tire, so damage that cannot be seen from the outside is not missed.
How the repair works
- Remove the tire from the rim
- Inspect the inside and outside to find the damage
- Confirm the damage can be safely repaired
- Fill the hole with rubber and seal the inner liner
- Inspect the repair, then mount the tire back on the car
Puncture repair
If you drove over a nail or something sharp, the tire can often be repaired instead of replaced. Punctures in the centre area of the tread can be repaired. Damage outside that area usually means a new tire.
