The CVT in many Nissans
Many Nissan models, including the Rogue, Sentra and Altima, use a continuously variable transmission, or CVT, instead of a regular automatic.
A CVT uses a belt between two adjustable pulleys in place of fixed gears. Acceleration feels smooth, and the engine can hold a steady speed while the car picks up speed. That is normal for a CVT.
Fluid and checks
A CVT takes its own type of fluid, which is not the same as regular automatic transmission fluid. Your owner's manual says which fluid it needs and when it is due. If the way the car pulls away or picks up speed starts to change, book a transmission check. We start with the fluid and a road test.
Nissan questions
Yes. Nissan is one of the makes we service, including the Rogue, Sentra, Altima and Pathfinder, along with Toyota, Honda, Hyundai and other domestic and import makes.
Yes. Book a transmission check and tell us what you have noticed. We start with the fluid and a road test, explain what we find, and quote any work before it starts.
Follow the maintenance schedule in your owner's manual. Many manuals also list a shorter schedule for harder use, such as lots of short trips, towing, dusty roads or extreme cold. Tell us how you drive and we can go over which one fits.
