All-wheel drive and the boxer engine
Subaru builds most of its lineup, including the Outback, Forester, Crosstrek and Impreza, with all-wheel drive. Power goes to all four wheels, which helps with grip when pulling away on snow and ice.
Why matching tires matter
An all-wheel drive system works best when all four tires are the same size and type and close in wear. A tire that is a different size or much more worn turns at a different speed from the other three, and that puts strain on the drivetrain. Subaru's owner's manuals ask for matching tires for this reason.
That is why rotating the tires on schedule matters. If one tire is damaged, ask us to check the tread on the other three before you replace it.
The boxer engine
Subaru engines are boxer engines: the cylinders lie flat on either side of the crankshaft instead of standing upright, which keeps the engine low in the car. The basic care is the same as any engine: oil, coolant and spark plugs on the schedule in your owner's manual. All-wheel drive also adds differential fluid to that schedule.
Subaru questions
Yes. Subaru is among the import makes we take on, from the Crosstrek and Impreza to the Outback and Forester. Tell us what the car needs when you book, or call (403) 283-5015 if you want to ask first.
Not always. The four tires need to stay close in size, type and wear for the all-wheel drive system, and your owner's manual sets out Subaru's guidance. If one tire is damaged, we check the tread on the other three and tell you what we see before you decide.
Yes. Tell us the kilometres when you book, or bring the owner's manual, and we quote the items due at that point before any work starts. Keep each receipt with the manual so the record stays complete.
